Bio

Mina Laamo is a documentary director, screenwriter, producer and founder of the production company Koko Production, based in Helsinki.

She is known for the creative documentaries Sorrow Tamers (2022), Becoming Me (2015) and The Pests (2007). In her own films she has explored grief, the sense of inadequacy, and fear of otherness. A three-screen documentary installation Four Trick Pony premiered in Turku Art Museum in 2020. At the moment she is working with a creative documentary and media art work called Featherlight.

In addition to film and media art, Mina Laamo has completed impact campaigns in cooperation with various organisations for several films. The impact campaigns have aimed to spark societal change by encouraging the acceptance and understanding of emotions, thereby improving people’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being.

Mina Laamo graduated from Aalto University majoring in Documentary Film. She also obtained another Master of Arts degree, majoring in Comparative Literature and Gender Studies, from the University of Helsinki.
